Technology is so great these days that we can connect instantly with people that in the past we might have been able to! Remember, success leaves clues and Facebook & Twitter are helping us to find those clues super fast! Over the last few days, I have been participating on Facebook in a HUGE effort to win a Million Dollars for the Utah Food Bank (from Walmart).
Walmart is giving away a Million Dollars to the U.S. City that collects the most VOTES (Likes) for their community.
It has been quite the race between Salt Lake City (SLC) and Fresno CA.
One of the strategies to get more votes for your community is to OPEN up your WALL to people who are NOT your Facebook Friends so they can still come and LIKE your links (this gets extra votes).
(Since you’re reading this anyway, just take 1 second to vote for SLC please: http://fightinghunger.walmart.com/city/Salt-Lake-City-UT 
One thing I have noticed as everyone is posting their links to their Facebook profiles is how many of them do NOT have a custom URL. I was shocked to see so many since Facebook Usernames have been around for about a year. So I guess it’s time to do a little Facebook educating.
Here’s what I mean:
My Custom Facebook URL is http://www.facebook.com/kimber.king
(instead of those long Facebook URLs you see with all the #s that look like this: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001167298)
You can have one too!
Setting up your Custom Facebook URL is easy!
Here’s How:
- Log into Facebook
- At the top of your Computer, type “http://www.facebook.com/username” into your address bar and enter
- Select a Username from their suggestions or type one of your own to see if its available
That’s it! Now you can send people easily to your Facebook Page!
And here’s even a quicker shortcut.
You can now just use the letters “fb” instead of “facebook” in your URL, for example:
vs.
http://www.facebook.com/kimber.king
And one last tip…for those of you who have Business Pages on Facebook, once you have 25 people who LIKE your page you can also get a Custom URL for that page, for example: http://www.facebook.com/yourdestinyteam

If you haven’t heard, Salt Lake City & Ogden U.T. are in the running for ONE Million & $100,000 dollars for their “food banks” provided by Walmart.
Over the last few days, SLC and Fresno CA have been neck and neck but over the last 24 hours, Fresno pulled ahead by “opening up their Facebook walls” (INSTRUCTIONS AT BOTTOM–very important to do this…make sure you read it)
We only have until December 31st for SLC to move to #1 again and get that Million Dollars for our food bank. If we come in 2nd, we still win $100,000 but there is a huge difference between a Million and $100,000 and we are too close to give $900,000 for our Homeless and Hurting families in Utah!
It’s so simple to do and will take you less than a minute unless you get obsessed with winning like I do and then you may find yourself with carpal tunnel this weekend!
VOTE, COMMENT, SHARE
Step 1 – VOTE: Click the Links for SLC or Ogden (or hopefully both):
Step 2 – COMMENT: in the “Tell us Why” section on those pages
Step 3 – SHARE : Post to your profile.
Do this as many times you can today over and over! If you have an hour to spare, keep on doing Steps 1, 2 and 3 and encourage EVERYONE of your Facebook Friends to do the same! (Share this article on your Facebook Wall and/or Twitter).
How to Earn Even More Votes:
1. When you see your other Friends SHARE the SLC Link on their wall:
- LIKE their LINK (post)
- COMMENT on their post
- SHARE their post on your Wall
2. Open up your Facebook Wall to EVERYONE! This is how Fresno is beating us! ( see instructions below)
Here’s how to OPEN YOUR WALL to EVERYONE:
1. Go to your Facebook.com account
2. Click on ‘ACCOUNT’ in the UPPER RIGHT CORNER of the page
3. Click on ‘PRIVACY SETTINGS’
3. Click ‘CUSTOMIZE’
4. Click on ‘POSTS BY ME’
5. Click on ‘ALLOW EVERYONE’
6. Scroll down and click ‘CAN COMMENT ON POSTS’ and “ALLOW EVERYONE”
7. Now that you have opened up your WALL, go back to the SLC (Walmart Link) and comment again that your “Wall is Open” and invite others to LIKE, COMMENT and SHARE on your wall (this is very important that you do this over and over)
Let’s just have fun with us for the next 48 hours and you will be making a difference by just CLICKING! Your Facebook Friends will understand and forgive all your posting as its for a Great Cause!
Ask your Out of State friends to help out SLC too if their own city isn’t in the running!
Think about how many times you have voted for American Idol or Dancing with the Stars?

How much easier is it to direct others to your Facebook using the 2nd link vs. the first link!
And, you can also set up that when you post on your FaceBook Page’s Wall, it automatically posts the status/update directly to your Twitter page!
So instead of posting both places, now you can do them both in one easy step!
